The seventeen live desks publish at tier1-auto-publish: they carry the byline “605Buzz automated newsroom, from public records” and the notice “Published automatically from public-record data — not yet reviewed by an editor.” Articles that a human did stand behind say so, and name the confirmation gesture that cleared them.

When something is wrong, the fix is public. Every version is kept; corrections land at the public corrections ledger, and each article’s record at /corrections/<slug> shows which fields changed, the body lines added and removed, a timestamp, and a link back to the article. Retracted articles serve a 410 Gone tombstone pointing at the correction record. The public ledger is the trust artifact, not a cryptographic certificate.

Is 605Buzz an AI publisher or a newspaper?
Today it is neither, exactly: the seventeen live desks are assembled by deterministic templates from public-record rows and published calendars. Between Aug. 9 and Aug. 18, 2026 a language model edited 37 articles for length and order after the templates had written them; that has been withdrawn. A language model shortens some articles now, by choosing whole sentences to delete from what the template wrote — it replies with the numbers of the sentences to cut and nothing else, so it cannot write, rephrase, reorder or add text, and every word you read is the word the template wrote. Sentences carrying a caveat, an attribution or a source link cannot be cut, a person asks for each edit and approves the result, and the change is filed on the corrections ledger as a rewording. The 37 free-text edits are listed at /edited and are the only ones of that kind — each says so, and 10 of them keep the template's own text in their version history; the other 27 were edited before first publication, so no earlier version exists. The check that ran on them compared tokens rather than claims, which is why the feature was withdrawn rather than kept. Search has no model at all — it is literal keyword matching, with no summaries and no ranking model. Those articles publish automatically, carry the byline "605Buzz automated newsroom, from public records," and display "Published automatically from public-record data — not yet reviewed by an editor." No person reviews them. Human review is a real gate on the elevated approval tiers — it applies to the editorial articles that carry it, and it will apply to the desks that ship on those tiers.
Where does the data come from?
Institutional sources — ten public-record and seven published calendars, covering Layoff notices, Commercial building permits, Sioux Falls annexations, Crop and pasture condition, Weather alerts, Road work and restrictions, Agenda Center postings, Sioux Falls city meetings, County commission meetings, City meetings — Mitchell, Spearfish, Madison, College athletics schedules, Junior and pro hockey schedules, Sturgis events calendar, Auction listings, Chamber of commerce events, Sioux Falls events and Community listings. The first ten are government records; the last seven are organizers' own listings, which is why those articles attribute every detail to the listing rather than asserting an event will happen. Sources for the planned verticals are added as each desk comes online. Every article cites its source URL and carries a SHA-256 hash of the version you are reading; the working per-source registry is an internal artifact, not a public scraping schedule.
