Version history
Every published version of this article, newest first. Versions are append-only: a correction adds a row, it never rewrites history. Each version below states what changed against the version before it — which fields moved, and which body lines were added or removed.
The content hash is a SHA-256 fingerprint of that version's stored headline and body, computed when the version was written. Two versions with the same hash hold identical text; a changed hash proves the text moved. It is the tamper-evidence check — recompute it against an exported copy of a version and any silent edit shows up as a mismatch.
How we verify a hash — and how you can
Canonicalization: the hashed bytes are the version's stored headline, then the two characters ||, then the version's stored body markdown — UTF-8, SHA-256, lowercase hex. Nothing else is in the input: no normalization, re-wrapping or rendering is applied first, no trailing newline is added, and no other field (including the parent version's id) is mixed in.
Export a version's stored headline and body, join them with the two characters ||, and take the SHA-256 of the UTF-8 bytes. It must equal the hash printed beside that version. In a shell:
printf '%s' "HEADLINE||BODY" | shasum -a 256 -
Version 4
Clarification
operator: rewrote machine timestamps as South Dakota clock readings, shown in both of the state's zones. The instants are unchanged and come from this article's own stored record; only how they are printed changed. The sentence naming the old zone was replaced because the new clocks made it untrue.
The body text changed; the headline did not. (compared against version 3)

- The feed publishes a listed start of 2026-04-21T18:47:00.000Z and a listed end of 2026-10-16T22:00:00.000Z. Times are given in UTC as converted from the feed's own numeric timestamps.

- The feed publishes a listed start of April 21, 2026, 12:47 p.m. MDT / 1:47 p.m. CDT and a listed end of Oct. 16, 2026, 4 p.m. MDT / 5 p.m. CDT. Each is one instant shown in both of South Dakota's zones — Mountain first, Central second; they are the same moment. The feed names a route and not a zone, so 605Buzz does not pick one for you.

Clarification
operator: removed a sentence about where the current status is shown. It described the article page, and the dek is the only prose in /feed.json — where there is no page. No fact about the road changed.
No change to the stored headline or body text was recorded for this version. (compared against version 2)

Version 2
Rewording — the article was reworded; no fact changed
Shortened by an editor — a language model proposed whole sentences to cut, an operator approved the result, and every remaining word is unchanged from the article as published; no text was rewritten and the public record itself did not change
The body text changed; the headline did not. (compared against version 1)

- Whether this work is currently underway is not stated in this text, deliberately: it depends on the time you are reading, so 605Buzz computes it from the dates above each time the page is loaded rather than storing an answer that would go out of date without anyone noticing. The status shown at the top of this page is the computed one.
- That paragraph is the department's wording at the time this record was last read, including any dates or restrictions inside it. 605Buzz does not rewrite it, and a detail inside it can be superseded without the surrounding fields changing.
