Road work: grading is listed at US-14A from 8.25 miles west to 8 miles west of Lead, according to the South Dakota Department of Transportation's traveller-information feed.

The feed gives the route as US-14A, the reference milepost as 19.946 and the affected direction as Both Directions.

The feed publishes a listed start of Jan. 19, 2026, 6:30 a.m. MST / 7:30 a.m. CST and no listed end — the feed publishes none for this record, which is how it represents work scheduled until further notice. Each is one instant shown in both of South Dakota's zones — Mountain first, Central second; they are the same moment. The feed names a route and not a zone, so 605Buzz does not pick one for you.

Whether this work is currently underway is not stated in this text: it depends on the time you are reading, and the department is the authority.

The feed publishes coordinates of 44.3027684015385, -103.869937845385 for this record. Those are the department's own figures, reproduced as published; 605Buzz does not geocode.

The department's own description of the work, reproduced without changes as published in the feed:

The following road construction project is in progress: grading adjacent to the roadway with delays 5 minutes, lanes reduced to 1, no passing, speed limit 35 mph, traffic routed to opposing lanes, and width limit 16 ft until further notice. This is a repair project on U.S. Hwy 14A approximately one-half mile north of Cheyenne Crossing in Spearfish Canyon consisting of placing a rock buttress to fix a landslide along the east side of US14A Traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled by temporary signals. Motorists should be prepared for suddenly slowing, and stopped traffic, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane. The project is anticipated to be completed by July 2026.

That paragraph is the department's wording at the time this record was last read, including any dates or restrictions inside it.

605Buzz has not independently verified conditions on this road. Schedules change with weather and contractor progress, and the department is the authority; check SD511 before travelling.

How this desk works

Where this comes from

This record comes from the South Dakota Department of Transportation's public traveller-information feed, served through its vendor's content network. Neither host publishes a robots.txt or terms-of-use page, so no access directive exists either way; 605Buzz reproduces the department's own fields with attribution and does not claim a licence nobody granted.

How the times are shown

The feed publishes start and end as numeric timestamps, so each is shown as a clock reading in both of South Dakota's zones.

How the status is decided

Whether work is currently underway is not written into the article text, deliberately: it depends on when you are reading. 605Buzz computes it from the listed dates each time the page loads rather than storing an answer that would go out of date without anyone noticing. The status at the top of the page is that computation, not a claim the department made.

605Buzz does not rewrite the department's description, and a detail inside it can be superseded without the surrounding fields changing.

Around this record

605Buzz has published 1 road record from the South Dakota Department of Transportation within about 16 miles of this location with a listed start on or before this date. SDDOT published no end date for that record, which is how the department represents work scheduled until further notice — 605Buzz cannot compute whether those are current, and does not guess. SD511 is the department's own live conditions service.
